PULSAR®: Collection System Level Control Overview

Source: Magnetrol International

Many municipalities today are facing increasingly stringent rules and regulations requiring them to install more sophisticated instrumentation to monitor and control their collection systems. With the wide array of possible solutions, the need for simple, reliable and effective continuous level control has become more important than ever.

Level control in collection system environments creates challenges unique to the municipal industry. Successful, accurate, and reliable continuous level measurement in collection system structures and conditions requires instrumentation with a powerful combination of features, technology and materials.

Continuous level measurement choices today primarily consist of non-contact ultrasonic, bubblers and pressure transmitters/transducers. Each of these technologies has found advocates, but not universal acceptance. Non-contact radar, a technology which has been in  widespread use in other industries and applications, is an ideal choice for collection system level monitoring. With its many advantages and benefits, it is gaining acceptance as a reliable, accurate and cost-effective alternative to traditional continuous level measurement techniques in municipal applications.
