Last Minute News To Note: WEFTEC 2013
The Water Environment Federation (WEF) announces last minute updates to the following scheduled events for WEFTEC(r) 2013. The Water Environment Federation's 86th Annual Technical Exhibition and Conference will be held October 5-9, 2013 at McCormick Place in Chicago Ill.
Monday, October 7
Opening General Session, Rm. S100, Grand Ballroom, McCormick Place South, 8:30-9:30 a.m.: Featuring a special welcome from The Honorable Pat Quinn, Governor of Illinois and a keynote by dynamic best-selling author, speaker and "agent for social change" Kevin Carroll. Carroll will inspire more innovation in water management by encouraging attendees to embrace their spirit of play and creativity to achieve greater personal and professional growth and success. Later that morning at 9:45 a.m., Governor Quinn will open the Global Center in the Grand Concourse Lobby.

Water Leaders Session: "The Future of Cities and Water: Insights from Great Water Cities", Rm. S100, Grand Ballroom, McCormick Place South, 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.: Facilitated by G. Tracy Mehan III, a former U.S. EPA Assistant Administrator for Water and a Principal at the Cadmus Group, this special session will feature the following panelists:
* The Honorable Rahm Emanuel, Mayor of Chicago * Harlan Kelly, Jr., General Manager, San Francisco Public Utilities Commission * Heiner Markhoff, President and CEO, GE Water & Process Technologies * Chew Men Leong, Chief Executive, PUB Singapore * Sue Murphy, Chief Executive Officer, Water Corporation of Western Australia
**Note: U.S. EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy has canceled her scheduled participation in this event due to the U.S. government shutdown. The Water Leaders Session will be livestreamed via www.weftec.org.
Tuesday, October 8
Global Center, Grand Concourse Lobby, McCormick Place South, 9:00 a.m.: Robert Kennedy, Jr., a vocal advocate for water stewardship, will speak about the importance of nutrient removal and recovery. Leaders from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) will also be on-hand to discuss the planned 2015 launch of the world's largest nutrient recovery facility, which will be built at Chicago's Stickney Wastewater Treatment Plant.
**Note: MWRD Executive Director David St. Pierre will appear in lieu of MWRD President Kathleen Meany.
Wednesday, October 9
Technical Session 610: Wipe Out: Reducing the Burden of Wipes in the Pipes, Room S406b, 1:30-5:00 p.m. Recent national news coverage of this high profile issue has increased interest in this hot topic technical session. Copies of the papers will be available to interested media who are unable to attend.
