Kruger Introduces The First Full-Scale Concrete Designed HCS ACTIFLO® System In The US
Kruger, a subsidiary of Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies, was awarded a contract by the City of Lake Oswego, the Managing Partner for Lake Oswego-Tigard Water Supply Partnership. The Partnership, formed in 2008 between the cities of Lake Oswego and Tigard, has embarked on a $250 million dollar program to upgrade, upsize, and modernize Lake Oswego’s water supply system to meet the current and future water supply needs of these two Oregon communities. A key program element is a 38 MGD water treatment plant expansion in which a 2 x 20 MGD ACTIFLO® system is to be installed. ACTIFLO® is a high rate ballasted clarification process utilized to provide drinking water treatment. This installation features the first full-scale sludge waste volume reduction system or High Concentration Sludge (HCS) System in the United States.
The ACTIFLO®HCS system features two individual concrete process trains capable of producing a total of 40 MGD of water. The effluent turbidity is guaranteed at or below 2 NTU while treating influent turbidities as high as 100 NTU. Each ACTIFLO® train uniquely operates with a High Concentration Sludge (HCS) System that provides greater than 50% sludge waste volume reduction. This substantial waste reduction allows for significant capital cost savings by reducing the amount of downstream residuals handling equipment. It also generates overall plant operating cost savings that will provide a relatively rapid return on investment for the Owners.
This new unique ACTIFLO® installation will be fully operational in October of 2014.
