Kirkland Lake Benefits From Improvements To Wastewater Infrastructure

Kirkland Lake, Ontario (Marketwired) - Representatives from the federal and municipal governments gathered today to celebrate the completion of the Kirkland Lake Wastewater Improvement Project. The upgraded wastewater infrastructure will better protect the environment and ensure the health and safety of local residents.

Thanks to funding from the Government of Canada, the Government of Ontario and the Town of Kirkland Lake, a new wastewater treatment plant was built adjacent to the existing plant. The project also included decommissioning the old plant and converting it to a pumping station with a storm-surge tank to provide additional storm water capacity during peak flows.

Not only will these improvements ensure sufficient treatment capacity to support population growth over the next 20 years or more, the energy efficient plant will provide a higher level of treatment, enabling Kirkland Lake to meet federal and provincial wastewater system effluent regulations.

Quick Facts

  • The Government of Canada is contributing up to $16 million to this project through the Green Infrastructure Fund.
  • The Government of Ontario is contributing up to $16 million to this project.
  • The Town of Kirkland Lake is providing the remaining $3,485,235 of the total project cost of $35,485,235.
