After setting the benchmark in the cooling tower market, Neptune Benson's Vortisand® H2F is set to break new grounds in markets such as desalination and wastewater polishing and reuse

Mountain View, CA /PRNewswire/ - Based on its recent analysis of the water and wastewater filtration systems market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Neptune Benson with the 2015 North American Award for New Product Innovation. The company's Vortisand® cross-flow microsand filtration system combines the best features of all filtration technologies to offer simplicity, low-cost media filtration, and the superior submicron removal efficiency of microsand cross-flow filtration.

The high-capacity Vortisand H2F filtration series features an air scouring system to increase the backwash cycle efficiency, which helps it treat a wide range of water qualities. With a capacity of 1200 gpm, the largest H2F filter can be skid-mounted and stacked to create a very compact system with a total capacity of 2400 gpm.

"Vortisand® relies on a combination of micro-sand media filtration and a unique cross-flow effect generated by a new type of water injector, Vortijet," said Frost & Sullivan Senior Industry Analyst Seth Cutler. "The cross-flow pattern provides continuous surface sweeping and allows the micro-sand to work efficiently across the entire surface of the filter."

Vortisand®'s unique method helped the filter achieve up to 85 percent efficiency in the removal of submicron particles at four to five times the filtration rates of multi-media filters. Peer solutions need to assimilate multiple technologies to achieve the level of filtration offered by Vortisand®, which drives up capital and operational costs.

Neptune Benson continually improves its technologies by incorporating customer feedback gathered during programmed service calls. It also performs on-site pilot trials to demonstrate the performance of the Vortisand® technology and to collect valuable operational data.

Neptune Benson aims to expand in North America and the Middle East, where the Vortisand® technology has already proven successful in cooling tower applications. Additionally, it has identified desalination applications in the pretreatment of nanofiltration and reverse osmosis processes. It will also be proposed for sewage treatment effluent polishing and reuse.

Owing to its cutting-edge technology and compelling end-user benefits, Vortisand® has won major clients such as Fauji Fertilizer (Bin Qasim, Pakistan), Nucor Steel (Convent, Alabama, US), Kaiser Permanente Medical Center (Anaheim, California, US), and Solvay (France), one of the largest chemical suppliers in the world. Neptune Benson is now planning to utilize its new product line to expand its traditional client base, bringing the best filtration and ultra-violet disinfection technologies to the municipal and industrial markets.

Overall, for its vision and technological leadership, Neptune Benson has earned Frost & Sullivan's 2015 North American New Product Innovation Award in the water and wastewater filtration systems market.

Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has developed an innovative element in a product by leveraging leading-edge technologies.
