Xylem, the manufacturer of Flygt brand industrial submersible mixers, offers its compact mixers in a flange mounted design. Normally mounted on guide bar assemblies, Flygt mixers can be mounted though flanged nozzles on the sides of vessels. By using displacement bodies, the optimum angles for good mixing of storage tanks are achieved. While this system has much in common with side entry agitators, it has the advantage that once the mixer is installed, there are no penetrations of the vessel wall. The Flygt mixer is inside the tank. For hazardous and/or environmentally sensitive applications, the Flygt flange mounted mixer offers the highest degree of safety.

Flygt brand mixers are capable of handling industrial materials like solids, process liquids and raw, screened sewage. A flange mounted tank cover is bolted to the mixer flange, forming one integral mixer unit. The entire weight of the mixer unit is carried by the tank flange cover which must be able to handle all forces created by the mixer.

Standard ANSI 24 or 30 inch flanges are available, depending on the size of the Flygt mixer used. The flange and frame serves to interface with the mixer flange in such a way so as to permit easy access to the mixer mounted cable entry or any of the following accessory features which can be provided, as required by the application: external seal oil change ports, external cooling water ports, seal flushing port or motor inspection port.

The tank flange and frame assembly are designed with fittings which permit a fork lift truck to lift, transport and position the mixer/flange assembly into an entry port of a tank.

Flygt mixers range from the 2.5 HP SR4630 to the 40 HP SR4680. Nominal thrusts ranging from 280 to 5,190 Newtons are achieved, allowing for optimal mixing results.

Flygt brand mixers are available with standard or FM rated motors. Flygt brand mixer motors are FM rated for Class I and II, division 1, groups C, D, E, F and G. The standard mixer, with its appurtenances and cable, shall be capable of continuous submergence under water without loss of water tight integrity to a depth of 130 ft. FM approved mixers have a depth limit of 57 ft. With Class H insulation applied by trickle impregnation standard, Flygt motors are designed for long service life.
