New Underdrain Prevents Loss Of Media At Mexico's Largest Drinking Water Plant
By Severn Trent Services
Located about 78 miles west of Mexico City lies the municipality of Villa de Allende, home of Mexico’s largest potable water treatment plant. The Los Berros water treatment plant was constructed in 1980 by the National Water Commission, an agency of the Mexican government that manages the nation’s drinking water and wastewater treatment. The plant provides 396.3 million gal/day of water to the country’s capital city, equivalent to approximately 25% of the total water supply of the western hemisphere’s most populated metropolitan area.

Real-Time Optimization: A Great Way To Save Money |
By Russell Ford, PhD, PE, BCEE, Vice President and Global Service Leader – Drinking Water Infrastructure
The American Water Work Association's State of the Industry Report identified business factors (water rates, knowledge management, non-revenue water to name a few) as some of the top issues and concerns for U.S. water utilities. Water systems are being asked to meet ever more stringent water quality regulations, with fewer resources, and still protect public health. Technological advances have afforded the water industry an opportunity to optimize how they deliver water to their customers, which in turn allows a utility to maintain quality while keeping the costs affordable. |
