Desalitech, a provider of high efficiency water treatment solutions, announced that water industry leader Dr. Rafael Simon will serve on the company’s advisory board. In this role, Dr. Simon will help guide development and implementation of Desalitech’s next generation reverse osmosis products and technology for water treatment, wastewater treatment, water reuse and desalination applications.

Dr. Simon is a Director of several cleantech start-ups and has co-founded several companies including Alpha Membrane Technologies, the world’s largest supplier of membrane manufacturing equipment.

With industry responsible for nearly 60 percent of all freshwater withdrawals in the U.S. and other developed countries and with increased frequency of water shortage crises globally, efficient industrial water treatment and wastewater reuse is essential. While traditional reverse osmosis systems typically extract 75 percent or less of a water supply, Desalitech’s ReFlex reverse osmosis systems can achieve up to 98 percent recovery which reduces waste by 50 percent to 75 percent. The patented process also typically reduces energy consumption by 35 percent.

“Rafael is a highly respected and leading voice in the world of water treatment and reuse, and he joins our advisory board at a time of exciting growth for Desalitech globally,” said Nadav Efraty, CEO of Desalitech. “We look forward to his contributions as we continue to provide industry leading, high efficiency water treatment solutions to our partners across the globe.”

Dr. Simon previously worked as a a Venture Partner at VantagePoint - one the world’s leading cleantech VC firms, COO of ZENON Environmental -one of the world’s leading suppliers of membrane-based water and wastewater filtration technology, and a consultant at McKinsey & Co. where he specialized in developing corporate growth strategies. He received a Ph.D. in Materials Science & Mineral Engineering from UC Berkeley in 1996.

“This is an exciting time in clean tech and water treatment, as more and more leaders of industry are recognizing both the value and importance of high efficiency solutions for their water use,” said Dr. Simon. “Desalitech has emerged as an industry leader, and I am eager to assist their team in the days ahead.”

The announcement comes on the heels other major announcements for Desalitech earlier this month, including a partnership with world leading filtration specialists, Pall Corporation, and a zero liquid discharge project win for Novelis in China.
