Cashco Introduces New Self-Loading Regulator Valves

With the introduction of its new SLR-1 and SLR-2 Self-Loading Regulator valves, Cashco, Inc., now offers customers even more choices for pressure regulation. Formerly marketed by Kaye MacDonald prior to the company’s acquisition by Cashco, Inc., in 1999, both valves have since been improved and updated.

According to Clint Rogers, General Manager, Valve Division, Cashco, Inc., the SLR-1 consists of a DA4 high-performance, pressure-loaded, flow-to-open pressure-reducing regulator with either a Cashco P1 or Fairchild Model 10 pressure-reducing regulator mounted onto it. The inlet of the main valve will divert into the P1/Fairchild, which in turn reduces the pressure to whatever level is required inside the cover dome in order to maintain the set point of the main valve.

“The pressure inside the cover dome is static, which means it doesn’t exhaust like it does on our ULR-1 valve,” Rogers explains. “If a customer needs to shut down a system or reduce the outlet rating of the main valve, the built-in, self-relieving feature on the P1/Fairchild will release the gas to the atmosphere as the adjusting screw is backed out, thus ‘dumping’ the dome. Thus, the SLR-1 can only be sold into environmentally safe applications.”

The other option, however, is the new SLR-2 self-loading regulator valve. Similar to the SLR-1, it employs a P1/Fairchild valve mounted onto a DA4 pressure-reducing regulator. However, unlike the SLR-1, the P1/Fairchild used on the SLR-2 is not self-relieving. Instead, the cover dome pressure will constantly bleed through a filter and check valve and dump back into the outlet of the main valve.

“This means the media will never see the atmosphere,” Rogers concludes. Of course, that feature also allows the SLR-2 to be marketed for hydrogen gas, natural gas and sour gas (NACE) applications.”
