Calgon Carbon Corporation Receives 2012 Industry Of The Year Award From Hancock County Chamber Of Commerce

Calgon Carbon Corporation, the world’s largest manufacturer of granular activated carbon, received the Hancock County Chamber of Commerce 2012 Industry of the Year award. Acknowledged for its contributions to the economy of Hancock County, Mississippi, Calgon Carbon accepted the award at the 2012 Hancock Chamber Annual Awards Gala on September 13 in the Hollywood Casino Grand Ballroom. Every year, the Gala recognizes outstanding achievements in citizenship, tourism, industry, and business.

Calgon Carbon was recognized for its Pearl River Plant’s contributions to the local community in Port Bienville Industrial Park, Hancock County. Located in Pearlington, Mississippi, and in operation since 1991, the plant manufactures activated carbon, which is shipped throughout the Americas, Europe, and Asia.

As the second-largest activated carbon manufacturing plant in the company, the Pearl River Plant has 43 employees, produces more than 40 million pounds of granular and powdered activated carbon annually, and resides on a 100-acre site. The plant recently celebrated its 20th anniversary of production.
