Blower Efficiency Enhanced With Variable Frequency DrivesSource: Schneider Electric
Newnan Utilities’ Wahoo Creek Facility is a three million gallon a day wastewater treatment facility which has won the Environmental Protection Agency’s Georgia, Southeast, and National Wastewater Treatment Plant of the Year Awards. This recognition reflects the results of the focus at Newnan Utilities — finding better and more economical methods to provide reliable treatment.
Staying true to their mission, Newnan Utilities recognized that performance and efficiency of their blowers were not up to expectations. Since blowers used in biological processing can consume 50 percent or more of a wastewater utility’s electricity, optimizing this area can have a dramatic impact on reliability and operational cost. Matt Kuehl, Newnan Utilities’ water treatment operations supervisor, summed up their priorities and the blower project by saying, “we’re after a good sound process, the money savings was just the kicker.”
