Biobed EGSB - Expanded Granular Sludge Bed

Source: Veolia Water Technologies

Biothane has developed the patented Biobed EGSB (Expanded Granular Sludge Bed) reactor for situations where space constraints exist. The result is a tall, slender reactor for anaerobic wastewater treatment is based on the conversion of organic pollutants (COD) into biogas in an oxygen free atmosphere.

The Biobed EGSB process is based on a high-tech and proven process design. Because of its high-pressure design, no gas holder or biogas compressor is required, thus substantially limiting the capital and maintenance costs. Because of the special internal configuration, the Biobed EGSB reactor can be very highly loaded compared to it’s predecessor the Biothane UASB and other conventional anaerobic technologies (25-30 Kg COD per m3 per day) all the while maintaining high treatment efficiency.
