AWWA Urges Consumers To Identify Lead Service Lines In Their Homes During Drinking Water Week

As Drinking Water Week continues, the American Water Works Association and water professionals across North America are highlighting the importance of identifying lead service lines in consumers’ homes.

If consumers live in a home with a lead service line, they may be at risk of exposure. Consumers are encouraged to identify whether or not they have a lead service line by hiring a licensed plumber and, if a lead service line is discovered, talk to the plumber and the local water utility about options for replacing it quickly.

Additionally, AWWA advises customers to have the home’s water tested by a certified laboratory that has been recommended by your local utility.

“We are working diligently in educating water utilities and consumers about lead in drinking water,” said AWWA Chief Executive Officer David LaFrance. “It’s imperative to test and ensure lead service lines aren’t in the home, and if they are, to get them replaced quickly.”
