A Tallahassee water employee was hospitalized this month after being injured on the job.

The employee, a long-time water treatment worker with a good safety record, went to the hospital “after falling approximately 30 feet on the job. The accident happened at the water treatment facility off of Springhill Road,” WCTV reported.

“An investigation is ongoing. Once that is complete, the City says it will determine what steps, if any, need to be taken to prevent this from happening again. At this time, there's no word on if there were any witnesses to that accident, but the facility employs about 70 workers,” the report continued.

The employee was doing maintenance on equipment when he fell.

“Leon County EMS, as well as the Tallahassee Fire Department, responded to the scene around 7:30 a.m. with the Technical Rescue Team on hand. The employee was unresponsive when they arrived, but was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in stable condition,” the report said.

A Tallahassee spokesperson emphasized that safety is a top priority for the city.

"There is a safety officer that is housed in that facility that does routine inspections and training. As a matter of fact, those employees have received over 600 hours of training over the last 12 months," said Alison Faris with the City of Tallahassee, per the report.

Tallahassee handles water, wastewater and stormwater services for city residents.
