American Water's Dr. Mark LeChevallier To Give Keynote Address At AWWA's Biological Treatment Symposium

American Water, the nation’s largest publicly traded water and wastewater utility company, recently announced Dr. Mark LeChevallier, Director of Innovation and Environmental Stewardship, will give a keynote presentation at the 2013 American Water Works Association’s (AWWA) Biological Treatment Symposium in Denver, Colo. on March 28-29.

LeChevallier’s presentation will focus on aerobic biological treatment, and demonstrate how microbial activity can benefit water quality. LeChevallier’s presentation will explain how biologically active filters have been used for years and the importance of this activity. 

Also during the conference, American Water's Dr. Orren Schneider, a senior environmental engineer, will present the results of WaterRF project 4312 "An Operational Definition of Biostability in Drinking Water". This project developed a practical operational definition of biologically stable drinking water and guidance for water professionals on how to optimize treatment prior to water distribution to produce biologically stable water to minimize the growth of bacteria in drinking water pipelines.

The 2013 AWWA Biological Treatment Symposium will focus on biological drinking water treatment technology, operations and monitoring strategies. The leading-edge symposium will dissect the benefits of engineered and passive biological systems from both the research and utility perspectives.
