AkzoNobel Introduces Polibrid 705E Elastomeric Polyurethane And Polibrid 670S Concrete Primer To Expand Reach In Global Markets

AkzoNobel’s International® brand is pleased to introduce Polibrid® 705E elastomeric polyurethane and Polibrid® 670S concrete primer as part of its robust high performance protective coatings and linings portfolio. The launch of Polibrid® 705E strengthens the coating’s presence in existing geographies and expansion into important Asian markets.

Polibrid® 705E is an odorless, zero VOC two-component coating specifically designed to protect concrete and steel in severe service environments. The coating is an upgrade to the popular Polibrid®705, which has been sold in the U.S. since the 1980s. Polibrid® 670S concrete primer is being introduced to round out the offer.

The ultra-high build,solvent-free elastomeric polyurethane cures fast and dries into a dense, crack-resistant elastic membrane that can withstand the expansion and contraction of concrete, while providing exceptional protection to rivets, bolts, edges and other surface imperfections. Geotextile fabrics may also be embedded within the coating to produce reinforced, bonded geomembrane linings.

Polibrid® 705E and Polibrid® 670S arethe first new Polibrid® branded products to be launched since AkzoNobel Protective Coatings extended their distribution agreement with Polibrid® to provide comprehensive global coverage. The new agreement includes a commercial arrangement wherein AkzoNobel can now bring this technology to applicators in a more economical way, which in turn provides owners the opportunity for lower cost projects.

“We are very excited to introduce Polibrid® 705E’s remarkable lining capabilities into our existing markets and the newly expanded areas of Asia,” said Ian Rowell, International’s Global Linings Segment Manager. “Polibrid®’s patented technology has led the industry for many years and we’re delighted to continue our partnership with them as we meet the growing protective coatings needs of a variety of industries.”

Applicators are giving the new abrasion-resistant elastomeric polyurethane high marks for its ease-of-use and ability to be sprayed at any thickness with heated, twin-feed airless spray equipment. Applied as a lining, Polibrid® 705E is ideal for potable water and wastewater service where exposure to H2S and microbiologically-induced corrosion (MIC) is prevalent. The coating’s highly flexible characteristics also make it an excellent choice for use in the mining and minerals markets, in secondary containment applications, and a broad range of other industrial environments.

For more than 100 years, International® has led the coatings industry in protective coatings technologies that meet the changing needs of global customers in the water and wastewater, oil and gas, chemical processing, power, pulp and paper, rail, steel structure, mining and marine industries.
