New Facility Includes Global Training Center Designed to Address the Workforce Skills Gap Facing Manufacturers Worldwide

A.W. Chesterton Company, one of Massachusetts’ oldest present‐day manufacturers, celebrated the grand opening of a new headquarters facility yesterday in the town of Groveland, Massachusetts, north of Boston. The organization held a ribbon cuƫtinng ceremony attended by state and local officials to celebrate a major building expansion, built by DACON.

The new space includes an expansive industrial training center for Chesterton distributors and customers, a state‐ of‐the‐art valve testing laboratory to help plants reduce methane emissions, and a New England service center which offers regional repair of pumps, cylinders, and seals. The expanded facility is now the new official headquarters for the company and provides additional office space for employees from two former Massachusetts’ offices. For the first time in 115 years, all 550 Massachusetts employees will be operating in one location.

“As we move forward, Chesterton is committed to remain a Massachusetts‐based manufacturer, and has invested in excess of $20M over the past three years in facilities, equipment, and people here in the Commonwealth—adding more than 100 jobs in the Groveland location alone,” said President & CEO Brian O’Donnell “In addition, our employees are committed to providing local support through self‐funded charity donations and programs that are designed to assist local communities by helping families in need, as well as support long‐term community activities.”

Speakers at the opening ceremony included Jay Ash, Secretary of Housing and Economic Development for the Common‐ wealth of Massachusetts, and Brian Gilmore, Executive WP –External Affairs, of Associated Industries of Massachusetts. Local officials included Joseph Bevilacqua – President & CEO of the Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce, and William Dunn, Board of Selectman, Chair, for the Town of Groveland.

Industrial Training Center for Process Industry Workforce Skills Enhancement
Chesterton provided tours of its new, world class industrial equipment training facility that provides in‐depth training for plant engineers and plant maintenance staff from a wide range of industries – including Oil & Gas, to Hydropower, to Commercial Water. A platform of intensive training programs is designed to help Chesterton customers build and retain much needed critical workforce skills at a time when many companies are facing a looming shortage of skilled workers due to retiring experts, an inability to attract new talent, and the loss of in‐plant training programs. The center is being used to train Chesterton staff and distributors, and customers from around the world.

Local New England Service
Chesterton’s Groveland, Massachusetts, expansion also includes a New England Service Center to provide repairs for mechanical seals, pump, and cylinders — as well as a wide variety of other capabilities focused on industrial equipment repair, upgrade, and installation. This opening is part of the company’s overall plan to provide regional servicing. The company already operates centers in Louisiana and Texas.
