Introducing the BioMag™ System — the magnetite ballasted application that’s changing the way people think about secondary wastewater treatment. Simple, reliable, and proven, the BioMag™ System easily integrates with planned or existing facilities, increasing activated sludge system capacity up to 300% without new tankage, providing control over the depth of secondary sludge blankets, and enabling nutrient removal levels down to 3 mg/L TN and 0.2 mg/L TP — all at substantially lower costs than conventional systems.
A Revolutionary Trend In Wastewater By Kevin Westerling, Editor, Water Online
Like the resilient host city of New Orleans, this year’s Water Environment Federation Technical Exhibition and Conference — WEFTEC 2012, Sept. 29 to October 3 at the Morial Convention Center — is squarely focused on moving forward. Innovation and emerging technologies are the central theme to this year’s show, reflecting a trend set to revolutionize the industry. Look throughout this newsletter for some important technologies that will be featured at the exhibition, and stay tuned to volume 2 of our WEFTEC pre-show coverage next week for must-see program highlights.

Corrosion In Wastewater Systems: More Than One Bug By Heather Ramsey, John Davis, and Gary Hall, Sauereisen, Inc.
The role of various bacteria in the destruction of concrete in wastewater systems has been recognized since 1945. Already susceptible to old age, wastewater infrastructure systems are also threatened by corrosive bacteria — but they needn't be.
Reductions in funding and tax revenues are forcing some water utilities to cut back on operational expenses. However, many municipalities often have the funds, but don't realize it. Many times, these funds exist in maintenance and operating budgets, and it just takes a little creative thinking to utilize the money. One example of thinking outside the box includes using advanced weather information to improve operational efficiency. Download the free webcast to learn more.
The Ozonia Aquaray line of vertical UV systems are widely used for disinfection and reuse of municipal wastewaters. Each system includes vertical UV modules with low pressure high output UV lamps arranged in staggered rows. The lamp spacing insures maximum exposure of bacteria to the germicidal action of UV. To insure energy optimization lamps can be dimmed and operated in a row by row sequence based of flow fluctuations.
The Bryneer, Plas-Tanks Industries' own brine system, is the most efficient brine system available today. The Bryneer bulk salt storage and brine maker is the first brining system that is completely designed and manufactured by a fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) fabricator.

Water Online The Magazine, Wastewater Edition 2012
The wastewater industry is besieged by “old” problems — not only traditional, age-old problems, but also old-age problems. To combat these issues, we decided in the 2012 wastewater edition of Water Online The Magazine to look at them from a new angle — to embrace wastewater treatment techniques that are smarter and more efficient than their predecessors.
Deb LaVelle, Chair of the Water and Wastewater Equipment Manufacturers Association (WWEMA), talks about the initiatives and advocacy efforts the organization undertakes on behalf of water companies, and why these missions are so vital in today’s environment.
