The Town of West Warwick, Rhode Island completed an expansion of its facility in the Fall of 2004 to increase the plant treatment capability to allow for nitrification and denitrification. Surrounded by wetlands, the West Warwick WWTP discharges into the Narragansett Bay tributary and is subject to recently tightened New England regulations for total nitrogen effluent. The plant receives the majority of its flow from domestic sources in the surrounding communities, but accommodates some industrial flow as well.

In September 2002, Infilco Degremont, Inc. was awarded the contract to supply a biological filtration system (Biofor®) to the Town of West Warwick.

The Two –Stage System The Biofor® process at West Warwick is a two-stage nitrification and denitrification system designed to treat the full flow from the upstream activated sludge process.
