VA Tech Wabag Limited Selects Amiad Filtration Systems' Seawater Solution, Based On Arkal Disc Technology, For Use In One Of Asia's Largest Desalination Plants

Desalination Plant to Leverage Arkal's SpinKlin Disc Filtration Technology In Order to Supply Purified Water to the Citizens of Chennai, India

Amiad Filtration Systems, a global provider of innovative water filtration technologies, announced recently that Arkal disc filtration technology has been selected by VA Tech Wabag, a leading Indian MNC in Water and Wastewater Management that was awarded the contract to build and operate one of Asia's largest seawater desalination plants. Construction of the project is being overseen and coordinated by Mecon Limited, a government-owned Company, for Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewage Board (CMWSSB). The filters constitute an important component of the plant and will help convert seawater to potable water.

The SpinKlin Disc Filters technology was developed by Arkal Filtration Systems, a company acquired by Amiad in 2010.

The Chennai plant will draw water from the Bay of Bengal and process it using reverse osmosis technology to supply 100 million liters a day (MLD) of purified water to the city.

The Chennai plant is one of the largest desalination plants in Asia. Construction on the plant began in February 2010. Arkal disc filters are expected to be installed in the fall of 2011.
