Water Filtration Treatment: GreensandPlus™ Is Selected For Improved Performance Over Manganese Greensand
May 1, 2009
Clayton, NJ - Hungerford & Terry announces GreensandPlus™ is today the choice of customers for water filtration media versus manganese greensand, the forerunner of GreensandPlus.
The advanced GreensandPlus filter media has all the properties of the original manganese greensand with added flexibility to use any of several oxidants for media regeneration. Potassium permanganate is not required unless it is advantageous to use in the application.
Users report that GreensandPlus is a cost-efficient water treatment filtration media. It has 30% less backwash waste when compared to manganese dioxide ore (MnO2) products. The GreensandPlus process efficiently and economically removes iron, manganese, arsenic, radium and hydrogen sulfide in municipal, industrial and point-of-use filtration applications.
GreensandPlus can also be operated at high filter flux rates. It has been used successfully in municipal drinking water applications operating at 11 gpm/ft2 and has been pilot tested up to 12 gpm/ft2. Due to the higher valance of the manganese dioxide coating, it has slightly more capacity than manganese greensand. This allows for longer filter runs between backwashes.
By manufacturing GreensandPlus to the same size, uniformity coefficient, density, weight, backwash and pressure drop curve as manganese greensand, it's an exact substitute for manganese greensand. In addition, GreensandPlus is more resistant to attrition from high differential pressure and works effectively in waters low in silica, dissolved solids or hardness. With water over 70° F (21° C), there is no degradation of the media.
GreensandPlus is not dependent on mining glauconite. This ensures shorter production time with streamlined manufacturing and reduced lead times.
