KROHNE WATERFLUX 3070 Battery Powered Water Meter Features Rilsan® Polymer Liner
July 13, 2011
KROHNE recently introduced the WATERFLUX 3070, a new measuring instrument that is an electromagnetic water meter for applications in the water and wastewater industry. It is the only magnetic flowmeter with a Rilsan lined sensor tube.
Derived from a series of complex chemical operations, Rilsan® is one of the few polymers in existence produced from a 'green' raw material - castor beans. Rilsan® PA resins have earned a preferred material status in the most demanding applications due largely to their excellent combination of thermal, physical, chemical and mechanical properties resulting in an outstanding cost performance ratio.
The new WATERFLUX 3070 offers the user several unique benefits. Its 15 year battery life makes it ideally suited to applications where no power is available. With no inlet and outlet piping requirements, the WATERFLUX can be installed in very narrow wells and chambers. As a magnetic-inductive meter it is highly accurate and stable, while also featuring a lower pressure drop than comparable mechanical water meters. For large diameters, the WATERFLUX 3070 has a significant price advantage compared to the lifetime cost of mechanical meters which often require filters and rectifiers as well as significantly more maintenance and cleaning.
At the heart of the WATERFLUX is the measuring tube with a unique rectangular cross section, which offers several advantages: The coils are arranged so that a strong, uniform magnetic field is formed so the measurement is independent of flow profile. In addition, this allows for extremely short inlets and outlets. The minimal width of the magnetic eddy currents allow for highly accurate measurement (± 0.2% ± 1.5 mm / s). The stable, Rilsan® lined metal tube design is capable of withstanding high pressure. Rilsan® is approved for potable water use.
The product's long life cycle is due to its unique sensor design and its very low power components resulting in power consumption which is about 5000 times less than a comparable line powered, conventional electromagnetic flow meter.
For use at remote water sources or wells or for network data transfer, the Waterflux is available with remote data transmission. A data logger and GSM transmitter module is available for the WATERFLUX 3070. The Data Logger stores all data, including peak flow and low flow during the night. This information may be transmitted over a GSM network to a server that the user can access.
The WATERFLUX 3070 can also indicate status or diagnostic conditions, such as battery life or less than full pipe conditions.
WATERFLUX sensors are available in sizes from 1inch to 24 inches (DN 25 to DN 600) and for combination with the other KROHNE signal converters, the IFC 100 and IFC 300, enabling the application and benefits of the unique sensor design in those industries where there is line power.
