In 1989 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency began to enforce regulations on TCE (Trichloroethylene) levels in drinking water because of its negative health effects. A major US air conditioning manufacturer detected levels as high as 100 parts per million (ppm) of TCE (Trichloroethylene) in a water stream.
