Contains heated-cladding for use with Organic Chemical applications
KROHNE, Inc., a global technology leader in the development, manufacture and distribution of accurate, reliable and cost effective measurement products for the process industries, offers its UFM 3030 ultrasonic flowmeters, an innovative line of cost-effective, 3-beam inline liquid ultrasonic flowmeters equipped with a heated cladding that is ideal for certain organic chemical materials, helping prevent the crystallation and ineffectiveness of these substances, which can occur when temperatures fall below 150°C/300°F. These meters overcome the price and performance barriers previously preventing wide-scale use of ultrasonics. Their 3-beam innovative design with advanced Digital Signal Processing improves accuracy, reliability and repeatability of the flow measurement.
The basic version of the UFM 3030 can handle temperatures of up to 220°C/425°F while another version is effectively able to function in temperatures up to 500°C/930°F. One chemical company, located in Germany, uses the Time of Flight Ultrasonic as its measuring principle and found Krohne's UFM 3030 is ideal for its variety of needs, with the flowmeter now its standard choice for all flow measurement conducted at its plant.
The company places the UFM 3030 in its steamer, along with an internal condenser to measure a wide variety of substances, with the nominal throughflow of 850l/h (3.75 USGPM) regulated by a gate valve. The heated cladding surrounding the UFM 3030 contains a mixture of water and glycol that allows it to process various liquids reliably, and remains at a steady temperature of 200°C/392°F and a pressure of 15-20 bar (215 to 290 PSI) ensuring that the liquid flow does not crystallize.
Krohne's UFM 3030 features an unobstructed flow path design with smooth surface finishes, ensuring that there is no additional pressure loss, an important requirement of the company. Without any moving parts, regular recalibration of the UFM 3030 is not necessary and it requires minimal maintenance. It also offers a batching function and optional inputs of pressure and temperature for corrected volume or calculated mass flow measurements.
The UFM 3030 is available in diameter sizes from DN 25 (1 inch) to DN 3000 (120 inch), with flow capabilities ranging from 1 m3/h (4 USGPM) to 40 000 m3/h (175,000 USGPM) and is wet-calibrated at Krohne's unparalled calibration facility. For diameter widths above DN 150 (6 inch) calibration is carried out on equipment that is of world-class precision, with an extremely low uncertainly point of 0.03 %, ensuring that each device performs with continued precision during the span of its installation. The UFM 3030's measuring transducer is also operated, checked and documented live with a sumilated throughglow through several temperature cycles, from -20°C /-4° to +60°/140°F, increasing its reliability and precision during field-applications, and its accuracy at outdoor site locations year-round.
