Hungerford & Terry Receives $2.3 Million Filtration Contract To Help Expand Water Requirements For The Buchman Direct Diversion Project For Santa Fe, New Mexico
Hungerford & Terry has been selected to design and build five 12-foot diameter by 40-feet long horizontal, multi-cell GAC (granulated activated carbon) filters with a 3,000 cubic foot bed of GAC per filter. This contract is reported to be $2.3 million dollars. The filters will be utilized for pretreatment to a membrane system that will treat 15 million gallons of water per day for the residents and businesses in the Santa Fe, New Mexico city and county.
For this project, the City of Santa Fe, New Mexico and its surrounding areas are adding approximately 8,730 acre feet of water per year in order to reduce their dependence on groundwater wells. The purpose of this project is to divert water from the Rio Grande River and deliver it underground to the water treatment plant. The project is expected to be completed in 2011.
According to Alan Davis, President of Hungerford & Terry, "This is an important project to ensure long-term, reliable high-quality water that is free from contaminants to serve the rapidly growing Santa Fe, New Mexico area."
