HiPOx Case Study: Keefe Environmental Services Superfund Site, NH
By APTwater, Inc.
In 2003, the EPA and the State of New Hampshire detected 1,4-dioxane in the groundwater at the Keefe Environmental Services Superfund site in the town of Epping. Following a full analysis of the groundwater and nearby wells in March 2004, the existing metal removal and air stripping remediation system had been deemed ineffective in treating for 1,4-dioxane.
Understanding the need to effectively and cost-efficiently treat the prevalent VOCs and 1,4-dioxane, the State's contractor, Woodard & Curran, Inc., reviewed several options and ultimately chose the APTwater's HiPOx® Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) technology. Since its installation in December 2004, the system has consistently achieved discharge permit limits, and the site has since transitioned from Long-Term Response Action (LTRA) to Operation and Maintenance (O&M) by the NHDES. The EPA continues to have 5-year Review Responsibilities for the site.
