Students of a Job Corps Center in Astoria, Oregon get much more than a new water system
Astoria, OR – Dennis Smith rocks back on his work boots to take in the view of the Columbia River. The wide breadth, only a few miles from the Pacific Ocean, is dotted with timber-covered islands and glows from the bright but cloud covered day. Eight or ten lengths of polyethylene pipe stretch to the end of a 500-foot docking pier, and a lone fusion operator who doesn't look old enough to shave, looks up from his work. "Nice office you have here to work in," says Smith to the worker who smiles and continues loading pipe into a fusion machine.
