EPA Awards Over $470,000 To Fort Bend County, Texas, To Construct A Drinking Water Distribution System

A recent grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) means residents of Fort Bend County, Texas, will no longer have to contend with bad taste, odor, and color in their drinking water. The $478,000 grant, awarded to Fort Bend County, will fund construction of a drinking water plant that will service residents of the cities of Arcola and Fresno.

Some of these residents currently use private wells that, possibly due to septic system contamination, produce water with significant color, odor, and taste problems. The Fort Bend County Freshwater Supply District #1 and the city of Arcola will construct a regional public water distribution system to provide residents with clean, reliable water. As the system is installed, the private wells will be plugged or disconnected from homes and used for irrigation.
