Calgon Carbon Converts Triple Play During AWWA ACE09
June 28, 2009
Pittsburgh, PA — Calgon Carbon Corporation featured the uses of Activated Carbon and UV Technologies as solutions for disinfection by-products and emerging contaminants in their baseball-themed booth during AWWA ACE09, June 14 to 18, 2009 in San Diego, CA.
Calgon Carbon's FILTRASORB® granular activated carbons are effective in treating disinfection by-products and their precursors as well as for taste and odor challenges. The presence of anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, non-prescription drugs, caffeine, insect repellents, and other substances in every day use are now being identified in municipal water supplies by increasingly advanced testing methods. The FILTRASORB activated carbons can also be applied to emerging contaminant challenges.
A second treatment option Calgon Carbon introduced was the SENTINEL® Chevron Ultraviolet (UV) reactor for disinfection and oxidation. The SENTINEL Chevron, manufactured in the USA, is a compact vessel with a small footprint that can be configured with 2 to 18 lamps to handle flows of 3-50 mgd, depending on water quality treatment objectives.
Jim Sullivan, Calgon Carbon's vice president of UV Technologies comments, "The development and validation of the SENTINEL Chevron demonstrates our continuing product line expansion in UV technology and our commitment to the growing, drinking water disinfection market worldwide."
