Dozens Of Plants Enjoy Advanced Water And Waste-Water Management

May 20, 2008

Use of different qualities of water for industrial production processes requires optimal management with extremely advanced monitoring and control technologies. GES, specializing in water and waste-water, provides its customers with a water and waste-water management model successfully applied in plants around the country.

GES (formerly Tambour Ecology) has been applying for the past 15 years a water management model for industrial use. According to this model, GES concentrates overall treatment of the entire water and waste-water system in the plant for a lengthy period of time with complete commitment to the quality and quantity required by the plant.

Tailor-made to existing demands and requirements
Different industrial plants differ from each other in the quality of water they require as well as technological treatment of waste-water, fulfilling environmental standards. For example, the soft beverage industry positions water at the heart of its process and product. High quality and monitoring of water entering the system is required on the microbial and salt aspects. The microelectronics industry is also characterized by clean and controlled production processes requiring particularly high quality water relating to the level of salts etc. GES has extensive experience and accumulated know-how enabling development of a water management model for plants able to fulfill changing needs in industry in the new age.

GES Co. provides industrial customers with optimal response both in design and supply of dedicated water treatment facilities according to the plant's needs and in operating facilities with its professional staff.

Annual water and waste-water treatment budget
The GES model provides an engagement method based on the price of one m3 of treated water/waste-water, including investment in equipment, operational and maintenance costs and manpower. According to this model, a finite, defined annual budget for treating water and waste-water may be determined for a plant that consumes a certain amount of water and outputs a certain amount and quality of waste-water.

Advanced water and waste-water monitoring and control system
For monitoring and control purposes of water and waste-water treatment facilities, GES in partnership with BackSoft developed advanced monitoring and control devices, including an innovative system constantly monitoring all process controllers installed in the facility (pressure, capacity, conductivity, Ph, chlorine and other controllers). Furthermore, the system constantly compares the lowest value to a calibrated threshold value and in case of irregularity, sends a warning to the shift technician. Using cellular web access (WAP) the technician enters the facility website, monitors operational values and modifies values or operates alternative systems to return the plant to correct operation. On the GES website, the process may be viewed in an ongoing fashion with monitoring of all operational parameters, reports may be generated and process graphs viewed. The website also displays historical values including any malfunctions.

Cellular web access (WAP) to the facility website, enables monitoring operational values, value modification or operation of alternative systems to return the plant to correct operation.

Haifa Chemicals applies the GES optimal management modelB At the Rotem Plateau in the south, GES has constructed on the Haifa Chemicals plant a facility for production of ion-free water with 150 m3/hour capacity. The facility includes a major reverse osmosis device followed by polishing using ion replacements. Water is supplied for production processes and turbine operation. A team of company engineers and technicians operate the water facilities and cooling and steam systems at the plant. The plant applies chemical treatment packages to prevent sediments and corrosion and ensure efficient, normal operation of the production system. Four years ago, in the framework of the extensive management model, out of profound comprehension and envisioning of plant requirements, Haifa Chemicals developed a cooling water treatment package enabling complete recycling of cooling tower waste-water and osmosis facility saline solution for production processes. Following an eighteen month joint research, the plant saved thousands of cubic meters of drinking water annually, thereby substantially increasing saving in the cost of raw water for the plant and cost of waste-water treatment. The plant water management model is presently applied at dozens of Israeli plants in different industries, including food and beverages, chemicals, microelectronics, paper, etc.

Advantages of the GES plant water management model

  • Overall solution for water and waste-water problems
  • Professional accompaniment and advice in long term contracts
  • Comprehensive supplier's warranty for normal, consistent operation of the water system
  • Commitment to a finite, definite annual budget for treating water and waste-water at the plant
  • Plant staff may focus on production instead of support
  • Joint activities for streamlining and improving the process in the long term
