Case Study: Highland Tank & Mfg. Co. Aboveground Storage Tanks Fuels The New Orleans Recovery Effort On Flood Gate Projects
In an effort to protect New Orleans from future flooding problems, the US Army Corps of Engineers has designed and installed new flood gates and large pump systems at the mouth of the 17th Street canal, Orleans canal, and the London Avenue canal. These systems will try to prevent future storm surges from entering the canals. The flood gates would be left open under normal operating conditions allowing water and ship traffic to pass undisturbed. The flood gates would then be closed to protect New Orleans at potential flooding conditions during Hurricane season. The project required Aboveground Horizontal Storage Tanks at each flood gate location to store No. 2 Fuel Oil which would fuel the mechanical operation of the flood gates. Highland Tank delivered (6) 20,000 gallon Aboveground Horizontal Storage Tanks to New Orleans, LA for three separate flood gate projects. Each of the three projects required (2) 20,000 gallon Aboveground UL 142 Horizontal Storage Tanks with a very aggressive delivery schedule before Hurricane season 2006. Click Here To Download:
