Kent County Breaks Ground on Kenton Sanitary Sewer District

Kenton, DE - October 10, 2000 - The Kent County Levy Court held a ground breaking ceremony today for the Kenton Sanitary Sewer District project designed by CABE Associates, Inc., a Dover based engineering consulting consulting firm. The ceremony, presided over by Levy Court President, Harold (Jack) Peterman, actually took place at the site of the District's proposed sanitary sewerage pumping station. The site is on the south west side of Delaware Route 42, just south of the Town of Kenton.

The project is actually a septic elimination project that will collect and transmit the town's sanitary sewage to the Kent County Regional Treatment Facility in Frederica, Delaware. The project consists of a gravity collection system, pump station and force main.

As noted by President Peterman during his remarks, the project was made possible by the cooperative efforts of many individuals and agencies. Besides the Kent County Levy Court and Department of Public Works, these include The Town of Kenton, various State elected officials, agency representatives and even private citizen land owners and volunteers. For example, the project has received funding from the State of Delaware 21st Century fund in the form of a grant ($2,226,350) and a loan from the Delaware Water Pollution Control State Revolving Fund ($375,000).

As noted above, CABE Associates, Inc., a local civil and environmental engineering company, designed the project. Construction services will be provided by Jackson Contracting, Inc. The project is expected to take 10 months to complete. Residents of Kenton will have 18 months to connect to the system after it is constructed.
